About Leav

We are fixing checkout for physical retail

Leav was founded in Montreal in 2023. Our team comes from retail technology, payments infrastructure, and computer vision. We set out to solve the queue problem for independent and mid-market retailers on Shopify without requiring expensive hardware or a custom app.

Why we started

The checkout queue is still unsolved for most stores

Large grocery chains and Amazon have experimented with checkout-free formats since 2018. But those experiments required millions of dollars in ceiling-mounted cameras, proprietary weight sensors, and custom hardware. They were not available to the other 99% of physical retailers.

By 2023, every shopper was already carrying the answer in their pocket: a smartphone with a camera and Apple Pay or Google Pay. The browser-based barcode scanning capability to make this work without an app had matured. Shopify had become the dominant POS platform for independent and mid-market retail.

Leav is the product that connects those three facts. No new hardware. No custom app. Shopify-native from day one.

What we believe

Our operating principles

01

Physical retail deserves better tools

Most checkout technology investment has gone to e-commerce for the past decade. Independent and mid-market physical stores have been left to manage with the same hardware they had in 2015. We are correcting that.

02

Simple to adopt beats powerful but complex

A feature that requires three weeks of IT setup and staff retraining will not be used. We design for the store owner who sets things up themselves, and we ship nothing that requires a consultant to deploy.

03

Loss prevention should not cost a fortune

Enterprise loss prevention systems cost tens of thousands of dollars per location. AI-powered item verification should be available to every Shopify retailer from the first month. That is what we built into Leav at every pricing tier.

04

Shopify is the platform, not the limitation

We built Leav to run entirely within the Shopify ecosystem. That means your existing catalog, your existing payments, your existing orders. We never require you to move data out of Shopify or run a parallel system.
